Could we finally be getting our long-awaited Lafitte Greenway? The Department of Public Works, according to a post on Mid-City Messenger, says the project is about 94 percent done and slated to be completed by this summer. Cool!
The greenway is a planned 2.6-mile bicycle and pedestrian trail and "linear park" stretching from N. Alexander and St. Louis streets in Mid-City to Basin Street and St. Louis Street in Tremé. The project broke ground in March 2014. Recently, Mid-City residents expressed concern that the some recent suburban-like development in the area would negatively affect the burgeoning greenway, calling for more local businesses in the area as opposed to chains.
