UPDATE: Mayor Mitch Landrieu's press secretary just dropped a line to point out that a building permit was not issued for the 1031 Canal Street development. "The permit was applied for on November 5, 2013 and Safety and Permits is in the process of code review." Our bad. It's official, the luxury high-rise development at 1031 Canal St. is still ON. A building permit was issued applied for last week and despite Praveen Kailas fessing up to those pesky federal theft charges, it looks like things will carry on as planned (maybe?). In case you missed it, Praveen is the son of Mohan Kailas, owner of the development company that is overseeing 1031 Canal, and has been a huge proponent of this $70-million project. The question remains exactly how realistic the 2015 completion date for the 240 residences and 15 penthouses with 56,000-square feet of retail space really is, though. As always, stay tuned.
