Storefront Plans To Add Second Story For West Elm

[Photo by Christine D. via yelp]

The owner of 2929 Magazine Street is interested in movin' on up, City Business says, adding a 1,200 square-feet second story to the Garden District property. Pending a conditional use amendment, the plan is apparently an effort to lure in West Elm, a national furniture and home décor chain. The Garden District folk aren't exactly the most agreeable when it comes to chains invading their space, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. The previous occupant, Pippen Lane (owned by the wife of local super-celeb John Goodman), is now located across the street. It should be noted that renderings of the upcoming retail space in the South Market District have a building labeled "East Oak". Coincidence?
