A hotel-apartment combo will be moving into the Central Business District, The Advocate reports. Aloft, a 188-room, "style at a steal" kind of joint will share space with 192 apartments at 225 Baronne St. It should be noted that there will be two pools, one for hotel guests and one for the apartment dwellers, so no tourist-local intermingling will be taking place. The first ten floors of the 31-story building will be a parking garage. The 550,000-square foot structure, empty since Hurricane Katrina, will be undergoing a $90 million facelift. As long as City Council gives the thumbs up, this renovation should get going in October and take a little over a year to complete. The City Planning Commission also okayed the demolition of the building next door at 919 Gravier St. (also vacant).
