'Silver Lady' is Blue Over Art Colony Closure

New, 3 comments

Buskers and transient artists no longer have short-term, free lodging options at Buskers' Bunkhouse, Nola Defender reports. The owner of the Bywater lots at 714-18 Alvar St. said "the liability was just too much to take" and took over the property back. The free artist colony became well-known after the documentary, "Kamp Katrina," showcased Pearl Heart's (aka, "the silver lady") plight to provide shelter to those without. She claims the site, which she has cared for since the storm, is "rightfully hers" despite not owning it and said, "This is about real estate. This is about property values." Well, yeah.
