'West-Indies-Style' Downtown Dwelling Has New Ask Of $309K

New, 6 comments

After a $21K price slash, this St. Claude Avenue home is back on the market. While this "New Marigny South" (the tax assessor's neighborhood description, not ours!) location might not be for everyone, there's no denying this "West Indies style" downtown roost, built in 1863, is one-of-a-kind. The columned wrap-around porch is ridiculously charming and 2,700-square feet is nothing to scoff at, but the indoor shots (see listing) aren't very revealing. This raised, plantation-style two-bedroom home on two huge lots sits close to the railroad switchyard, so clanging trains and backed-up traffic cannot be deal breakers. And speaking of deal breakers, we hear the previous sale fell through, so we'll be keeping an eye on this spot. It should be noted the last time this home was on the market, in the early 1990s, it sold for a sweet $37,500.
