Abandoned School Bought By Spacewalk Head Honcho

An abandoned Lakeview school, built in 1915, has been snatched up by a private developer, WWL reports. The Craftsman style building, in a serious state of disrepair, sold for $1,176,000 last week. Scurlock Development Group (whose prez also runs a spacewalk/inflatable zoo company, we thought you should know) is mum on plans for now. But the Lakeview Civic Association peeps told WWL that it's going to be an "upscale condo and assisted living facility." Please let there be a bounce house! The school was on the Preservation Resource Center's list of most endangered buildings back in 2007, so this purchase is a sigh of relief for many. The former elementary school was built by architect E.A. Christy, who designed many of the city's schools back in the day. Fun fact: Christy was a product of the New Orleans public school system.
