Add one more vacant CBD high-rise to the quickly growing list of future downtown living options. The Oil & Gas Building was purchased over the summer for $2.3 million by The Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation. The local nonprofit plans to turn the 14-story former office tower into 130 mixed income apartments called 1100 Tulane Apartments. Ampersand, the club kid mecca on the ground floor, will stay. City Biz reports that there is "no established budget" right now, but we hope they're accounting for the cost of enough insulation to drown out the constant bass. The RNDC is currently applying for tax credits and hoping to add the modern building to the National Register of Historic Places.
Just around the corner, construction is underway at 100 Elk. Once a medical plaza, the 17-floor building will be luxury rentals. After a $90 million makeover, 225 Baronne will emerge as a boutique hotel and apartment combo.
