Emergency Demo Approved At Blighted Crime Scene

Emergency demolition was approved for the West Bank apartment building where a six-year-old girl was found murdered last month. The Advocate reports that the building was cited seven times in the past few years and interior shots revealed "smashed walls and ceilings, drywall, insulation and other debris strewn about the floor." A councilman acknowledged that there are many blighted buildings in this crime-ridden Harvey neighborhood, but an emergency demo is especially needed here because it's not boarded up. If the owner of the building (who didn't show up to the meeting, by the way) wants to appeal then he has 48 hours to do so, as of yesterday. A council chairman predicted a tear-down by the end of the week.
