Decoded: New Orleans' 'Gourmet Kitchens'

Welcome to The Brokerbabble Glossary, where we take a word or a turn of phrase that seems to show up in an unreasonable number of listings and decipher its true meaning. If you have any ideas for us, send them to the tipline. Today's word is two words: Gourmet Kitchen.

Gourmet kitchen, being a subjective term, leaves plenty of opportunities for interpretation. Let's say it should be reserved for spacious kitchens with the finest of appliances and gadgets, a place where even the worst cook would feel inspired to whip something up. Throw in an island, good lighting, and sleek design. The Garden District home above? Yes, we'd say this is a gourmet kitchen.

? Ample cabinet space and a glass tabletop just aren't going to make the "gourmet kitchen" cut, sorry.

? "Gourmet Kitchen with custom cabinets, refrigerator, range/oven, microwave oven & ceramic tiled floor,." Oh, you mean this place has a regular ole' kitchen? Great!

? Sure, there are stainless steel appliances but don't think that cute little drawing is enough to detract from the fact that there's not much else "gourmet" going on here.

? "Gourmet kitchen with Granite counters, custom cabinets-range/oven & refrigerator will be provided." Thank you so much for providing appliances to really bring this up to the gourmet level.

? No. Just no.
