Today is the day the wrecking ball hits the Iberville housing development on the edge of the French Quarter. And so begins this site's first stage of redevelopment in the newly coined Iberville-Tremé part of town. Of the 75 buildings at Iberville, 59 of them will be demo'ed and the remaining 16, which were built in the 1930s, will be renovated. Plans for the end result of the Iberville site call for about 800 units of mixed income living. In case you missed it, demolition was approved in May for the 23-acre site, which is part of a $600M redevelopment.
