What used to be University Place between Common and Canal Streets is now Roosevelt Way, in honor of Huey P. Long's favorite place, The Roosevelt Hotel. The City Planning Commission was iffy about the street name change, but the city's first responders are okay with it and City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell says University Place (named so back in the old days, before Tulane moved its campus Uptown) has "lost its original meaning."
