Here we go! Yet another downtown building (well, in this case three of them) prepping for the transformation into luxury apartments. By this time next year the corner of Canal and Camp Streets in the CBD will be the Giani Building — 44 units of luxe living (33 one-bedrooms, 10 two-bedrooms, and one three-bedroom penthouse) with 8,000-square-feet of ground floor retail. Woodward Design+Build is running the show and says the $15-million reno of the 76,000-square -foot property will "restore a historic architectural asset, preserving unique building characteristics and bring back the second floor gallery that existed at the turn of the 20th century." One of the buildings involved, 600 Canal St., was designed in 1889 by famed New Orleans architects Thomas Sully and Theodore Toledano. The luxury details so far? A rooftop pool and cabana, a second-story courtyard, a plant covered "green roof," plus private laundry, wifi access, and stainless steel appliances.
