Are These Rentals Offering a Taste of New Mid-City Prices?

New, 11 comments

Mid-City is generally regarded as one of the more affordable neighborhoods around town so when rentals start popping up with $1,800 per month price tags, it's worth taking a look inside. This renovated two-bedroom, one-bath home at N. White and St. Phillip Street comes with a dishwasher and washer/dryer and has two decks with a pretty big yard. Sure, the 1,000-square-foot pad is lovely enough (but not quite in the swoon-worthy category) and the ad goes all out in an attempt to up the charm factor with: "This is the perfect dog-walking, bike riding, casual stroll neighborhood, with friendly neighbors who sit on their porches and like to chat." There's an $1,800 security deposit plus a non-refundable $250 pet deposit.

Over on Olga Street, sits another two-bedroom, one-bath asking $1,800 per month. This rental is a tad bigger at 1,300-square-feet and also has a large yard plus off-street parking. The wood floors are nice and the home looks like it's well kept (er, except for that closet bursting into the kitchen). Again there's nothing mind boggling going on with this place to put its price so high above others in the area. Pets are negotiable and the pet deposit isn't mentioned, but there is a $1,800 security deposit and a $25 application fee..
