From Cajun Dancehall to The N.O. Advocate's Offices?

Plans are in motion for the former Michaul's Restaurant and Cajun Dance Hall on St. Charles Avenue to be the future site of The New Orleans Advocate newspaper offices. Local billionaire businessman John Georges, who happens to own The New Orleans Advocate, scooped up the CBD property for $1.63-million at an auction back in September. At the time he said he had "several ideas but no immediate plans for the property." Of course, there are still approvals needed from the lords of zoning and the Historic District Landmarks Commission, but the plans presented yesterday to the CBD Architectural Review Committee are calling for the front of the 17,000-square-foot building to be demo'd and replaced with a new structure, plus a second floor addition.
