What $3,200/Month Rents You in New Orleans

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various New Orleans neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $3,200

↑ Let's start this Curbed Comparisons with a familiar facade — 301 S Jeff Davis. Our "rent or buy?" debate house is still up for rent and offers three bedrooms, two and a half baths, as well as a "gourmet" kitchen. Its spacious floor plan and proximity to Canal St only add to its charm. Cats and small dogs are accepted and the deposit is the same as monthly rent at $3,200.

↑ This Central City two bedroom, two bath has perhaps the most hilarious copy to go alongside its listing. Have you ever uttered "oh la la" over a home? Well, apparently you're going to once you see 1632 7th St. This furnished two story has damn near everything you'd ever want in a home — cable, a luxurious bathtub, spacious living room, checkerboard tile flooring in a galley kitchen. It's even got a washer, dryer, all utilities included, and wifi. Oh, and cable. Why so many amenities? We'll let the listing tell you: "We sail for at least half the year and rent our home for the extra income." $3,200 a month gets you the 1,650 square foot furnished second floor.

↑ Here's a condo with an interesting history — the Henderson Building opened its doors in 1903 as the Godchaux Sugar Refinery. Its life as living space changed drastically in 1996 when 700 Commerce St's apartments renovated into condos. Now, one of them can be yours for just $3,000 a month. 700 Commerce St #114 is a two-story unit with two bedrooms and two full bathrooms evenly distributed with one of each per floor. Its tall ceilings and spiral staircase give it a modern feel in a regal old building. No word on deposit or pets on this listing, sadly. May its 1,271 square feet give you comfort instead.

5237 Camp St is a spacious rental that gives you the option of having it furnished or not. Its two stories with three bedrooms and two and a half baths clock it in at 2,000 square feet. And, like our first listing, it's got a "gourmet" kitchen, whatever that means. $3,150 a month gets you historic architectural elements with a modern twist in this century plus old double.

↑ Perhaps 127 Carondelet St #3A felt that it could sell itself on prime CBD location alone. Or maybe it's the fact that this is just one of eight units in its building. Either way, it's a little bizarre to have a prime listing contain just three photos, all of which look like vector drawings. Housed in the circa 1840s building of Gallier Court, this two bedroom, two bath space allows cats and small dogs and, at 1,114 square feet, isn't so crammed that it's not pet friendly. $3,200 a month gets you somewhat luxurious living just a block away from the French Quarter and with valet parking offered.
