It's a great debate when it comes to what's affordable concerning rent, but according to this article, in order to not break the bank rent and utilities shouldn't be more than 30 percent of a household's income. Bummer alert: A study by zillow.com for The New York Times found that in New Orleans the median rent (not including utilities) as a percentage of income "has more than doubled, to 35 percent from 14 percent."
