Almost two years after a five-alarm fire completely wrecked the Hubig's Pies factory in the Marigny, where the much-loved fried pies were churned out since 1921, the Dauphine Street property is now for sale. There's no official listing, but the phone number on the billboard leads to Hubig's headquarters where it was revealed that they want a "minimum of $500,000" for the lot of land. The Orleans Parish Assessor's Office gives a 2014 total value of $121,800 to the site that is zoned under the Historic Marigny/Tremé Residential District-3, which allows single to four-family dwellings. This seems to seal the deal on any rumormongering concerning a Hubig's movie back to Dauphine Street. For a while, plans seemed to be chugging along for a Press Street pie factory—City Council even gave the thumbs-up—but apparently a dispute over dough money and how to move forward has things on hold. Perhaps a high-dollar sale here could get the ball rolling for a new location? As always, stay tuned.
