Look Out! Is It Take Two for the Habana Outpost Plans?

A development/neighborhood beef shitshow that began in 2012 with Sean Meenan's oh-so-controversial plans to turn a blighted gas station on the edge of the French Quarter into a Habana Outpost restaurant looks like it's gearing up for Part Two. The Canal Street Beat cats spotted a permit filed with the Vieux Carré Commission for the "renovation of the existing structures" into a new restaurant, Café Habana at 1040 Esplanade Ave. The previous plans, which sent some neighbors into straight-up outrage territory and sparked the "No Habana Outpost" signage craze, fizzled out in December 2013 when Meenan withdrew his VCC application. There could be a new rendering reveal in this go-round, as Meenan said he was temporarily shelving his Habana hopes to continue talk with neighbors that would lead to a "refined plan for the future."
