A former police jail and patrol station in the Treme has finally gained full approval to be turned into a bed and breakfast. Owners Liz and Raul Canache had their plans unanimously approved during Tuesday's City Planning Commission meeting in which a law was changed to allow for buildings such as 2552 St Philip St to function as B&Bs and for their full nine-room project to move forward in the 113 year old building. The Canache's efforts help to save one of the most endangered properties in the city — a building that made Louisiana Landmarks Society's 2010 New Orleans Nine list for its significance.
