A controversial plan to erect a 250 foot tall 21 story hotel that would take out large portions of 105, 109 and 111 Tchoupitoulas — all historic structures in their own right — has been unanimously denied by the City Planning Commission. Is anyone surprised that the proposed two Marriotts, one mega-structure got denied after the HDLC denied a demo request to make way for the $120M project a year ago? Dozens of individuals and many organizations opposed of the plan and local media certainly isn't painting the developer Kishore "Mike" Motwani in a good light, with Canal Street Beat stating that Motwani is best known for his "run-down buildings," among other things. We'll keep you posted if anything more comes from this heavily-opposed development.
