While Hubig's pies may never churn out those delicious fried treats again, the homegrown pie company's Marigny factory — which burned down in a five-alarm fire in 2012 — may have a second life as a condo complex called Baker's Row. While the New Orleans City Council approved plans for the complex last week, the last hurdle is an OK from the New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission (HDLC). The Hubig's plans, as well as other significant projects, are on the agenda for the HDLC's meeting this Friday.
According to NOLA.com, other big projects on the schedule includes a mixed-use complex on 1518 Magazine Street with parking, retail and apartments; a $600,000 bar project on Tchoupitoulas Street in the Irish Channel; and a proposed office building and a loft on Magazine Street from Chenevert Architects.
