City Planning Commission Says 'No' to Virgin Hotel

Don't let it die a Virgin [Hotel]: NOLA.com reports a proposed 14-story Virgin Group hotel at Baronne and Lafayette streets got a big, fat "no" from the City Planning Commission on Tuesday.

Why? The hotel, planned to be 148 feet, is too high (the property's zoned limit is 125 feet and 10 stories). Gatehouse Capital, the Dallas-based developer behind the proposed hotel, plans to appeal the decision to City Council.

According to the NOLA.com story, the 183-room hotel would include a restaurant, rooftop garden, pool and bar. The average room rate is projected at $300 per night.
