New Orleans is About to Get More Tiny Houses

While tiny house mania is sweeping the nation, the micro living trend hasn't completely hit New Orleans yet â€" but that might change soon. Uptown Messenger reports that architect Jonathan Tate, his firm, and developer Charles Rutledge see tiny houses as a way to use irregular lots around New Orleans and provide more affordable housing.

The team is currently working on the first of these tiny homes or, what they're calling "starter homes" on a 880-square-foot sliver of land between a home and a warehouse on 3109 St. Thomas St. in the Irish Channel. The house will go on the market in August.

While the tiny house lifestyle is on trend, Tate and his team see their starter homes as a way to attract first-time home buyers to increasingly expensive neighborhoods like the Irish Channel. But there is a chance that Dwell-reading folks might scoop them up before that demographic gets a chance.
