The Joan Mitchell Center, an artist residency center in the Treme, underwent a big redesign and renovation and will host a grand opening Aug. 22. Architects Lee Ledbetter and Jonathan Tate designed the campus, which will house 20 artists-in-residence this fall.
The modern, L-shaped building has a large outdoor green space, and its storm water management features include a sloped lawn, bioswales and a retention pond. The building is LEED Certified Silver. The center hosts a grand opening party Saturday, August 22 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m for anyone who wants to architecture-ogle.
