Don't Forget: Museums Offer Respite from Latest Heat Advisory

New Orleans is under another excessive heat warning because God hates us, so your first instinct may be to get in a pool or simply wait for death. Here's another idea: Why don't you take advantage of one of the top privileges of the free world, air conditioning, while also taking in some culture at a local museum? Luckily August is New Orleans Museum Month, which means a membership to one institution gets you into the rest for free throughout August.

This year 16 museums are participating — from the big ones like NOMA to smaller gems like Le Musee de fpc — and offering free admission for two to members at any of the other participating museums.

If you're not into paying for a membership but still want that free cultural/air condition experience: NOMA offers free museum admission to Louisiana residents on Wednesdays, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art is free for Louisiana residents on Thursdays, and The Historic New Orleans Collection's Nelson Gallery and the main Royal Street galleries are always free.
