Brandan "Bmike" Odums, the mastermind behind ExhibitBE and a mural of trumpeter Travis "Trumpet Black" Hill in Treme, is finishing his latest project: a Sistine Chapel ceiling-inspired mural along an abandoned multiplex in New Orleans East. Today The Advocate has a story about the 200-foot-wide adaptation mural, titled "The Peace Wall."
Odums' anti-violence mural is taking shape on the abandoned Grand Theatre near the Read Boulevard exit of 1-10. Katrina's floodwaters destroyed the movie theater, and it never reopened.
Faces of New Orleans East residents fill this version of "The Creation of Adam," including rapper Dee-1 acting as the titular first man, plus other prominent New Orleans East residents who are involved in community organizations in the neighborhood.
