Last year we contributed to some rumormongering about an Ace Hotel possibly opening at the old Max Barnett Furniture Store at 600 Carondelet Street. Well, it's official: the hip hotel chain will open at the art deco Warehouse District building in early 2016, reports Jed Lipinski of NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.
Rumors of the hotel opening a location here began after Domain Companies bought the building for $5.5 million in 2013. NOLA.com says Roman and Williams, the designers behind the Ace New York hotel, will design the 234-room hotel, which will include a restaurant, bar and rooftop swimming pool. The New Orleans outpost of the Portland-based chain will also include a Stumptown Coffee Roasters cafe, to really give you that Portland experience.
Construction on the space began last fall, and it is expected to be complete in early 2016.
