This Solar-Powered Dog House Could Be Yours

We've seen swimming pools for dogs, and now here's the latest in amenities for the discriminating canine: the solar-powered dog abode. As part of the Louisiana Humane Society's Barkitecture competition, Solar Alternatives designed the house, which uses solar energy to power a light and a fan.
They showed it off on a WWL-TV segment this morning, along with Monkey the dog, who seems unimpressed by solar energy.

No word on if Solar Alternatives plans to mass-produce these puppy palaces of the future, but there is at least one out there that you can get your hands on: all houses in the Barkitecture competition are up for auction. You can see the other fully functional dog houses in the competition all this week at Lakeside Mall, and the week culminates in the awarding of "most original" and "best in show" at the mall this Saturday. (The segment said you can bid online for dog houses, but there isn't anything on the Humane Society website yet.)

The competition also solicited designs "kitty condos" this year, but Jeff Dorson from the Humane Society said on the segment that no one submitted any designs.
