Market Street Power Plant Goes Up For Auction This Week

One of New Orleans' most striking abandoned buildings will have a new owner by the end of the week: NOLA.com reports that the 105-year-old Market Street power plant is headed for public auction this Thursday. The news was first reported in July but with no auction date set at the time.

Redevelopment of the plant has been delayed since Market Street Properties LLC, who had planned to turn the plant into a retail, residential and entertainment center, filed for bankruptcy in 2009. The bankruptcy case was dismissed in May, and developer Joe Jaeger, who provided loans to Market Street Properties, began the process of selling the plant.

The plant been the site of movies filmed in New Orleans, including the recent remake of Kickboxer. The auction is at noon Thursday at the Orleans Civil District Courthouse. Any guesses or wishes for what this property could become?
