Residents of the 7th Ward got notice that a developer is planning to build a hotel and retail space at the site of an old car wash and warehouse buildings on St. Bernard Avenue, according to a tip from a reader.
Devalepay Inc. owns 1201-1219 St. Bernard Ave., across the street from the hipster haunt Sidney’s Saloon and a block away from the new St. Claude/Rampart streetcar line, and the company notified neighbors that it intends to redevelop the properties. The primary use of the site will be a hotel, with retail as the secondary use, with more than 10,000 square feet of gross floor space.
A neighborhood meeting regarding the project is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 20 at Homer Plessy School. The notice also included the contact information for Corinne M. Villavaso (504-905-2892, villavasogroup@gmail.com) for any questions or comments.
The new streetcar line seems to be spurring some action in that corridor: the jazz club Sweet Lorraine’s, a few blocks away on St. Claude Avenue, recently reopened after being closed for two years.
