Marigny Hampton Inn: Residents get a first look

Residents aren't wild about the Hampton Inn-esque design

Marigny residents got a look at the Hampton Inn planned for the neighborhood last night, and Gambit reports that neighbors want the hotel have a design more in step with the neighborhood.

Once planned as the site of Sean Cummings’ Elisio Lofts, a hotel developer recently bought the warehouse on Elysian Fields Avenue and soon after announced plans to build a Hampton Inn.

Attendees of last night’s Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association meeting got a look at the renderings of the hotel, which would be the first major hotel chain for the neighborhood. The major points of contention were plans to have valet parking for the hotel (neighbors complained that hotel guests might just opt to park on the street for free, taking away from residential parking), and the design of the hotel, which, well, looks like a Hampton Inn.

The FMIA is in favor of the hotel, hoping it will curb the practice of short-term rentals in the neighborhood.
