Algiers Federal City redevelopment: Developer fired on stalled project

It’s the second time in three years this project has fallen apart

The long-stalled redevelopment of Algiers’ Federal City looks like it might be stalled some more. The Advocate reports the local agency in charge of the project has fired its master developer, marking the second time in three years that the redevelopment of the shuttered Navy facility has fallen apart.

The prior developer, HRI/EEC, left the project in 2014, and since then little has happened. Last fall, ambitious plans emerged to turn the area into a high-end residential retail community on the river. The latest developer, Vista Louisiana LLC, was fired for "repeatedly failed to comply with provisions of its performance agreement."
