New Rampart streetcar line temporarily derailed

The cause for the derailment is being investigated

According to The New Orleans Advocate, a new North Rampart streetcar shifted off its tracks Tuesday morning as it turned on Canal via Rampart.

In an interview with The Advocate, Justin Augustine III, general manager of the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority and vice president of Transdev, said the agency is investigating the cause of the derailment. Augustine assured the streetcars, tracks, and any related components are not faulty.

No one was hurt during the shift. According to the Advocate, streetcar delays were not long.

The city of New Orleans, New Orleans RTA and Transdev held a grand opening event for the North Rampart streetcar line on Monday, Oct. 3. The North Rampart line spans 1.6 miles from Elysian Fields Avenue to Canal Street.
