Later Algiers Ferry Hours Will Remain Through the Year

After a trial period scheduled to last until Sunday, February 14, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority has decided to continue later service hours for the Algiers Ferry that started in October.

The later hours—until 11:45 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and until 9:45 p.m. on Sundays—will continue through the year. The French group Transdev will review ridership numbers at the end of the year to determine if the longer hours will continue.

Since the ferry began charging fares, ridership has decreased: 440,400 riders paid to ride last year, compared to the 1 million passengers that rode when the ferry was free, according to NOLA.com.
