As soon as later this year, energy from the city's power grid will come from solar panels, thanks to a project by Entergy. This week the utility company broke ground on a project that will use solar panels to generate power for the city.
The project will have 4,000 solar panels—which can generate one megawatt of electricity, enough to power around 160 houses—installed on Entergy property in eastern New Orleans. The power generated will feed back into the city's power grid.
The panels are slated to be in service by mid-2016.
