The Tulane Canal Neighborhood Association is New Orleans' Newest Neighborhood Group

The group will focus on 'litter abatement, affordable housing issues and adding new members'

With so much development happening on Tulane Avenue, Broad Street and along the Lafitte Greenway, this part of town deserves further distinction beyond "Mid-City." So now, those living in the area within Broad Street and Claiborne Avenue and Poydras Street and the Lafitte Greenway can join the newly formed Tulane Canal Neighborhood Association.

With the new Orleans Parish Prison and University Medical Center and plans for the Tulane Avenue corridor down the pipeline, this area is seeing a lot of changes. However, residents complain about the "massive amounts of litter and garbage" in the area, which has "long been a dumping ground for used tires and broken-down couches on empty lots." The organization was formed partly to give these residents a platform to advocate for improvements.

For now, the group aims to focus on "litter abatement, affordable housing issues and adding new members, while holding off on other issues such as crime prevention."
