City Planning Commission Rejects Stateside, the Bywater Hostel/Hotel

New, 2 comments

City Council is next

Despite getting recommendation for approval from its staff, the City Planning Commission denied a conditional use permit for Stateside, an upscale hostel and hotel planned for Bywater, at is meeting yesterday.

The CPC still believes the project is "out of scale" with the neighborhood, and sided with neighbors who believe the hostel would be a nuisance.

Interestingly, the Bywater Neighborhood Association is for the project, saying the hostel would "ease demand for short-term rentals in Bywater, as well as eliminate blight and offer new amenities to residents," but Neighbors First for Bywater, a "splinter" group in the neighborhood, is opposed to it.

Now it's onto to City Council for the final decision.
