The plan to convert the the former First United Baptist Church on South Jefferson Davis Parkway in Mid-City into apartments cleared its first hurdle: The City Planning Commission gave the project the thumbs-up at this week's meeting.
The church will be redeveloped into 20 one- and two-bedroom apartments of various size, and rents are planned to range from $1,300 to $1,600.
The adjacent home will be demolished to make room for a 28-space parking lot.
Next the project goes to City Council for the final decision.
