Airbnb Boasts Record Jazz Fest Bookings While B&Bs Report Vacancies

New, 1 comment

Do traditional B&B operators have a right to complain?

Nearly 20,000 people have booked rooms for Jazz Fest on Airbnb—more than two times the amount in 2015—while traditional bed-and-breakfast operations are reporting vacancies.

Airbnb reported the Jazz Fest numbers today. Short-term rentals are booming, but NOLA.com's story quotes the head of the Professional Innkeepers Association of New Orleans, who says her members are experiencing unprecedented vacancies.

However, many are arguing in the comments that any B&B can list their rentals on Airbnb, and that users like the easy interface of the site. But the Airbnbs listed alongside these legally operating B&Bs aren't subject to the same taxes and regulations currently.
