In February, there was a glimmer of good news for a sorry stretch of Jefferson Highway. Ochsner Medical Center sought a zoning change for a mostly abandoned shopping center on the thoroughfare, purchased by the New York-based Feil Organization this past summer, to build a rehabilitation hospital. Now it's official: Jefferson Parish Council OK'd the zoning change today.
The medical system, whose flagship hospital is located down the street, is planning a $62 million, five-story hospital for the site. Along with Ochsner's other projects down Jefferson Highway, which total $360 million, the rehab hospital should be completed by 2019.
