Jackson Avenue in the Garden District to Be Reduced to Two Lanes, Add Bike Lane

Coming spring 2017

A repaving project on Jackson Avenue will reduce car lanes on the street and add a bike lane.

A project that will repave Jackson Avenue from S. Claiborne Avenue to Tchoupitoulas St. will include a reconfiguration of Jackson from St. Charles Avenue to Tchoupitoulas: Each side of the neutral ground on the street will have a wider, single lane for vehicles, a 6-foot bike lane, and a parking lane.

The city said that when complete, the street will resemble Esplanade Avenue, which added a bike lane in 2014.

Construction is scheduled to start in the summer and conclude by the spring of 2017.
