The Proposed Broad Street Taco Bell is Officially Dead

It came down to zoning

In another loss for proposed Mid-City drive-throughs, a controversial Taco Bell planned for Broad Street is no mas.

Although heated debates over "suburbanization" of the area or the unhealthiness of the chain erupted after the plans were announced, the decision ultimately came down to zoning: The neighborhood’s mixed-use district doesn't allow for drive-throughs, even with a conditional use permit.

The City Planning Commission's Director of Safety and Permits, Dr. Jared Munster, said the developer is still free to seek a conditional use permit for the Taco Bell without the drive-through—but how fun would that be?
