New Orleans Rent: What $1,300 Gets You in Carrollton, Gentilly, Bayou St. John, and St. Roch

Comparing rentals in five neighborhoods

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various New Orleans neighborhoods. Is one person's studio another person's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $1,300.

↑ Located in a lush Carrollton area near S. Carrollton Avenue and Oak Street dining and shopping, the two-bedroom has refinished concrete floors and high ceilings. It also includes in-unit laundry and central air. The listing doesn't mention a pets policy.

↑ This colorful, 1000-square-foot two-bedroom in Gentilly features off-street parking, a covered front porch, a fenced back yard, and a 300-square-foot garage with a washer and dryer. The landlords, who describe themselves as a "mom and pop-style property management company," allow pets.

↑ The 900-square-foot Bayou St. John one-bedroom boasts hardwood floors, high ceilings, a side yard, and a view of the bayou from the front porch. Dogs aren't allowed.

↑ Pretty small at 600-square-foot, this one-bedroom in Uptown does have an open floor plan and lots of storage. The "brand new" space has a big kitchen with a dishwasher, in-unit washer and dryer, and a walk-in closet. There's no mention of a pets policy.

↑ Over in St. Roch, this freshly renovated two-bedroom is pretty fancy with crystal chandeliers, hand-scraped wood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, high ceilings, a porch, and a private yard. No word on the pets policy.
