The Capri Motel Will Be Replaced With 200-Unit Apartment Complex if Demolished

The demo request still needs to go to City Council

A nuisance to some and a midcentury landmark to others, Tulane Avenue’s Capri Motel may soon be demolished, and its owners plan build an apartment complex at the site if that happens.

The owners’ demolition request was approved by the Neighborhood Conservation District Advisory Committee on Monday, but it still needs final approval from City Council.

Owner Kevin Frischhertz and architect Charles Ward presented at the meeting plans to build a 200-unit apartment complex at the site to service those working at the VA and University Medical Centers.

At the same meeting, the committee approved another demolition request for Tulane Avenue. Katina Spera presented a request for 2501 Tulane Avenue, but has no plans for the site yet.
