Tulane Avenue Auto Shop to Be Demolished to Make Way for Mixed-Use Development

A mixed-use development with condos and retail is slated to go up in its place

Tulane Avenue is seeing another demo: Last week, City Council approved a demolition request for an old auto shop on 500 South Lopez St., and a mixed-use development with condos and retail is slated to go up in its place.

The vote was unanimous, even though a month before the Neighborhood Conservation District Committee denied the demolition request, citing concerns about neighbors’ lack of involvement in the process.

Joseph Nguyen, son-in-law of the building’s owner, says the development will include a neighborhood pharmacy, grocery store, and a small restaurant.
