Airport Holding Competition For Developers to Build Hotel at New Terminal

The terminal opens October 2018

Along with the starchitect-designed new terminal planned to open at MSY in October 2018, the airport also is planning for a three-star hotel next to the terminal that captures "the spirit of the terminal's design."

The Aviation Board and the City of New Orleans issued a request for proposals for hotels offering at least 140 rooms. The new terminal is slated to open Oct. 1, 2018, and developers must have the hotel ready for guests by that date.

The hotel must capture the spirit of architect Cesar Pelli’s design, which the RFP describes as such:

"The design of the North Terminal embraces the rich natural and cultural history of New Orleans, the mighty Mississippi, the sultry bayous, rich cuisine, live music, the joie de vivre of its citizens. The concept of lightness and openness is a guiding design principal in the exterior design."

Proposals are due Sept. 16, interviews and a final selection will take place Oct. 12, and it goes to City Council Nov. 3.
