In the works since 2014, the conversion of a warehouse at 822 Howard Ave. into high-end apartments is complete. A press released announced the Motorworks Apartments and Lofts will open this Friday.
The CBD building was built in 1916 and used throughout the 1920s as a car dealership. The building was apparently nicknamed "The Daylight Factory" because of the building’s abundant windows.
The renovation incorporates features from the original structure, including a chandelier in the lobby using pieces of glass panes from the building, and salvaged barn doors and loft stairs on the first floor.
The building includes 15 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with rent ranging from $2,500 to $4,500. Two units on the first floor fronting Howard Avenue are being advertised as "live/work spaces."
The building is on the quiet stretch of Howard Avenue off of Lee Circle, which recently saw the renovation of the Howard Triangle Building into apartments. It will soon see the opening of the new Greater New Orleans Foundation headquarters, and the New Orleans Culinary Institute plans to move into the long-vacant ArtWorks building.
