Beer-Centric Spots Taking Over Spaces in Bywater, Freret Street

Breweries, beer rooms, and beer gardens seem to be taking over New Orleans

Beer-centric businesses are planning to take over spots on Freret Street and Bywater.

Coming to Bywater is Parleaux Beer Lab, which is heading into an unassuming spot on the corner of Royal and Lesseps streets. The building is currently "a shotgun that’s attached to a steel workshop" that hosted rehearsals for the band Morning 40 Federation on its second floor. The lot is right next to part of the railroad line.

The spot is a short walk to Bacchanal, and the former Naval Support Activity looms over the neighborhood nearby.

Over on Freret Street the former Latriana's Lounge space at 5018 Freret St., which has sat empty since Hurricane Katrina, will be the site of Freret Beer Room.

Breweries, beer rooms, and beer gardens seem to be taking over New Orleans: The former Gem Theater’s conversion into Wayward Owl Brewing is underway, and recently some restauranteurs announced plans for a bike-friendly beer and wine garden at the Lafitte Greenway.
