Developers Are Hoping to Demolish the Old Pepsi-Cola Plant on Tulane Avenue

The same group recently bought another building on Tulane Avenue

The same group of developers that recently bought the old Dixie Brewing warehouse on Tulane Avenue is hoping to demolish an old Pepsi-Cola plant on the same street. Mid-City Messenger reports that there’s resistance to the request.

The owner of the building is 2537 Tulane Properties, which is connected with the New York-based real estate development firm The Feil Company. A contractor with Feil made the demolition request for the building, which has been vacant since Hurricane Katrina, at the Neighborhood Conservation District Advisory Committee this week. Staff are advocating for the building to be preserved.

The contractor said the company does not know what they plan to do with the building yet, but they are interested in "apartment buildings, but also in hotels and in retail development." So, anything, really.

Ultimately, the NCDAC staff decided to defer the issue for two weeks to give the owner time to develop a more complete plan.
